GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Honeybourne
Stratford-on-Avon Racecourse Platform: gwr_src1432
Looking from the bridge carrying the SMJ line to Broom
southwards towards Honeybourne prior to the construction of the spur joining
the two lines. The platform was constructed by using sections of Barlow rails
hammered vertically into the ground at 8 ft intervals, the length of the
railway sleepers used to form the platform front elevation. The spur to the SMJ
left the GWR line at the bottom of the down platform on the left. The curve of
the GWR main beyond the platform was advantageous for the joining of the two
lines as it meant that the new spur only slightly deviated from the route and
therefore could be traversed at a reasonable speed.
