GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Acocks Green & South Yardley Station: gwrag2441
Western Region D1062 'Western Courier' heads the 5:28pm Snow
Hill to Knowle & Dorridge local stopping train on 9th May 1963. The service
was designated by the Western Region as '2H 53' which is seen displayed on the
front of the locomotive. The locomotive had only just been completed by Crewe
works having entered in to traffic on 6th May 1962. Whilst this recently
introduced class were already being operated on express workings within the
region, by Stafford Road and Old Oak Common shed crews, Tyseley crews were only
just being trained at this time and the '2H 53' service was one regularly used
to help crews become familiar with the locomotive.
