Looking south along the down relief platform (Platform No 4) at Bordesley Station with the Midland Railway’s bridge visible in the background. The station was situated on a viaduct and at this end of each of the two island platforms were the main public staircases, which descended to the entrance and booking office on Coventry Road. The wide partially glazed canopy with decorative saw-tooth valance was typical of the rebuilt Great Western Railway stations on this line and afforded some protection from the elements. Here on the relief platform this canopy finished over the start of the platform ramp, requiring a somewhat ungainly wooden extension to be constructed over the staircase well. Further along the platform, brick built passenger waiting rooms and toilet facilities were provided, no doubt welcome when the prevailing south-westerly winds blew across this exposed location.

Bordesley Station had a frequent passenger service with suburban trains on the Birmingham main line and North Warwickshire Line stopping there with the intervals between trains at peak times being under ten minutes.
