Another photograph of the High Street entrance to the original Bordesley Station taken in 1949 when the property was occupied by Ernest Williams, General Merchant. The station entrance, which faced the Bordesley Bedstead Works, was a relatively narrow frontage of approximately 15 feet wide, but this was covered with a gabled roof (of which only the bare trusses remain in the photograph). It is thought that the original entrance probably opened on to the street with hinged iron gates for night time security. Beyond the covered way which extended some 35 feet deep from the street there was a 90 foot long access tunnel under the railway with staircase access to the two station platforms at each end. Schematic plans of the original station together with further information may be found in image 'gwrbg2704'. We are indebted to Graham Laucht for researching most of the information in this caption.
