View of Bordesley Station looking south towards Tyseley taken on 18th July 1963 from the edge of platform 3 which served the up relief line. There were two island platforms at Bordesley. The main line island platform on the left of this photograph had platforms 1 and 2, which faced the up main and down main lines respectively, while on the right is the relief line island platform with platforms 3 and 4, which faced the up relief and down relief lines respectively. Trains using Moor Street operated on the relief lines, while those travelling through the Snow Hill tunnel normally operated on the main lines.

The platforms at Bordesley are slightly staggered. The main island platform straddled the Coventry Road and had a lattice girder bridge carrying the main lines over Sandy Lane and the Grand Union Canal at the southern end, while the relief island platform straddled Sandy Lane and has a 76 foot long plate girder bridge carrying the relief lines over the Coventry Road. This peculiarity resulted from staged construction when the line was quadrupled and station relocated. The relief island platform being opened in March 1915, several years before the other island platform.
