A view across Snow Hill Station during the reconstruction work. In the foreground are some of the steel roof columns which will support the glazed roof of the station and lift it 28 feet above rail level. Many of the columns had their lower portions concealed within the future platform buildings, which can also be seen to be under construction in this photograph. The distinctive alternate buff and terracotta arches are evident. These platform buildings at the end of bay platforms 9 and 10, were; the Telegraph Office, 3rd class Waiting Room, 3rd class Ladies Waiting Room and Cloak Room. In the background on the right is Birmingham Corporation’s Summer Lane Power Station from were electric power was obtained via a 5kV substation beneath the platforms.
