Another view of Great Western Railway large prairie 5101
class 2-6-2T No 5102 waiting with some clerestory coach stock on the up main
line with a red tail lamp on the buffer beam, circa 1929-30. Behind, in bay
platform No 9 is a toplight coach which is probably one of the Birmingham
division four coach suburban sets. This is the same locomotive and coaches seen
in image 'gwrbsh49', taken by the same photographer
from a position a little further down the platform. No 5102 was initially
allocated to Tyseley shed (TYS), but the locomotive was known to be allocated
to Stourbridge shed (STB) in January 1934 and to Birkenhead shed (BHD) in
January 1938. Prior to nationalisation, in December 1947 No 5102 was again
allocated to Tyseley shed and was there (84E) in August 1950. In March 1959 No
5102 was known to have been allocated to Neath shed (87A) and was withdrawn
from there a year later in March 1960, being disposed of at Swindon in June
1960.
