GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Birmingham Snow Hill Station: gwrbsh76a
Close up showing the Ladies Waiting Room located within one
of Snow Hill station's ornate buildings. On the left is what appears to be a
vending machine, selling either cigarettes or chocolates as these were suitable
products for dispensing by machine. On the right iis one of British Automatc
Company's metal nameplate stamping machines. During the 1950s these machines
printed out a given number letters on a strip of aluminium for one old penny
(1d). Many a new apprentice on their first day on the job from one of
Birmingham's many engineering businesses were sent to the station to print out
their name on a strip for fixing on their tool boxes etc. See below for a
photograph of a preserved model at Edinburgh Museum reproduced with
acknowledgement to Douglas Bryce.
