GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction

Claverdon Station: gwrc12a

The original 1860 station building built as a single storey in red brick building with a slate roof

This close up of image 'gwr12' shows the original 1860 station building built as a single storey in red brick building with a slate roof. It had little decoration, but four massive chimney stacks dominated the roof line. Internally it consisted of a booking office, waiting room, separate ladies waiting room and gentlemen’s toilet. There was no canopy and all rooms were accessed from the platform side. The half timbered building at the end was originally the signal box, but by this time it was a store room. The two storey red brick building behind the station buildings was the Station Masters House. Claverdon had a station master and two porters prior to 1933, but in that year the staffing arrangements were rationalised and Claverdon station and the two porters were placed under the supervision of the Hatton station master.
