GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction

Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Grange Class No 6851 'Hurst Grange' is seen on a stopping train from Stratford upon Avon to Leamington on 22nd April 1957. Note that the signal controlling down trains from the end of the up platform has been removed. Built at Swindon works in November 1937, No 6851 was to remain in service until August 1965 when it was withdrawn from 2A Tyseley shed to be scrapped the following year. The Grange Class in the Churchward era to replace the worn out 2-6-0 Moguls, but being slightly heavier than the locomotives they were to replace, were limited on some routes. The Manor Class eventually fulfilled this gap in provision.
