GWR Collett 0-6-0 2251 class No 3217 on a two coach train passes under the road bridge after leaving Claverdon station

Great Western Collett 0-6-0 2251 class No 3217 on a two coach local train passes under the road bridge after leaving Claverdon station in 1964. To the right of the engine are the old station buildings including the signal box, which closed in 1906. The photograph was taken from the goods yard and in the foreground is the over grown goods siding installed when the track was doubled in 1939 on the site of the 1885 raised loading wharf. Locmotive No 3217 has the distinction of being the last engine to be built by the GWR. (December 1947) and the remaining two of the class Nos 3218/19 were the first BR. engines to be built at Swindon. No 3217 was withdrawn from Leamington Spa (84D) in November 1964 and scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge a month later.
