GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction

Claverdon Station: gwrc871

Claverdon station looks more like a canal than a railway following the Whitsun Floods in 1932

Claverdon station looks more like a canal than a railway following the Whitsun Floods in 1932, but the waiting passengers and splash marks on the platform edge indicate that a service is still available. Looking under the road bridge arch towards Bearley, the abutments of the old west occupation bridge are still visible. The three plank open wagon in the loop line appears to contain stone. It is likely to be for road construction, because at that time the government and local authorities were funding road building to the tune of £60m per annum. By 1935 this funding had increased to over £100m per annum.
