GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction

Claverdon Station: gwrc910

View showing the up platform waiting room with the ramp leading up to the road-side booking office

Claverdon’s new station was opened on 2nd July 1939. This official photograph taken on 17th March 1939 shows the up platform waiting room with the ramp up to the road-side booking office behind. All the new buildings matched - Red brick walls laid in Flemish bond with cement rendering painted white above the 3foot 6inch level. The lintels were red brick on end. Grey Welsh slate was used to tile the hipped roofs. Each of the buildings had canopies with a valance board with an alternating square cut edge rather than the more typical Great Western saw tooth designs.
