GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Danzey for Tanworth Station: gwrdt662
|
View of the station's main passenger facilities from the
down line platform showing the general and ladies waiting rooms and booking
office. The access to the gentlemen's toilet was on the left and had a water
tank located above the entrance to provide water to both the gent's and ladies.
The central doorway has a British Railway's station name totem over the door
indicating that this was the entrance to the general waiting room and ticket
office. The booking clerk's office is at the far end of the platform denoted in
this instance by the oil can at the side of the door. The station porter would
have been responsible for ensuring that the lamps were filled and the wicks
trimmed. This view also enables us to examine the GWR's sectional building
system which used asbestos (Eternit) in its construction. Panels were modular
and buildings could be created by adding plain panels, door panels, top quarter
window and half window panels dependent on the requirement. The above building
was nearly four times the length of the down platform's shelter.
