GWR Route: Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch
Great Alne Station: gwrga778
Just after the start of WW2, on 25th September 1939 the
Alcester Branch closed for a second time. It reopened again in 1941 to enable
workers from Coventry to get to the Maudslay Motors shadow factory, which had
been relocated to Great Alne after its Coventry premise had been damaged by
bombing. In this early wartime photograph taken from the level crossing the
wartime blackout precautions can be seen; whitewashed platform edges and
partially blacked out oil lamps.
