GWR Route: Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch

Great Alne Station: gwrga778a

This close up shows the corrugated iron good sheds at the Bearley end of the platform

This close up of image 'gwrga778' shows the corrugated iron good sheds at the Bearley end of the platform in the summer of 1939. In the yard an LMS open wagon and two vans wait to be collected by the mixed Alcester Branch train. The main goods traffic at Great Alne was agricultural; incoming grain for and flour from the Spencer’s Mill and the export of locally felled timber. As there was no permanent crane at Great Alne, a portable crane was brought to the station when required for loading timber. Other regular traffic included domestic coal, animal foodstuffs and tins of paraffin. The paraffin was manually discharged into a storage tank which was provided at the back of the goods yard in 1924.
