building on the right accommodating the main facilities of the station whilst a
railmotor is seen standing at the up platform. The building accommodated a
station master's office, parcels and cloak room, booking office, booking hall,
general waiting room, ladies waiting room with adjoining ladies lavatory, and
at the far end, the gentlemen's lavatory. In their article in the Great
Western Journal No 11 Summer 1994, Roger Carpenter & Chris Turner
state, 'By the 1930s a separate wooden cycle shed had been added at the
Stratford end nearest the camera, adjacent to which was an oil store used
primarily for signal lamping. The gas lighting was converted to electricity
following authorisation in March 1947.
