An unidentified GWR 0-4-2T 517 class locomotive stands at the head of a three-coach train comprising of four-wheel coaching stock that has arrived at Henley in Arden from Lapworth via Rowington Junction. In 1897 the veteran railway 19th century enthusiast, TR Perkins, moved to Henley-in-Arden and recounted in the November 1902 edition of the Railway Magazine the journey from Lapworth to Henley-in-Arden. In the article he notes that the normal branch locomotive was No 539 and that despite the undulating route the train would take just twelve minutes to complete the journey of just over three and half miles.
