Ex-GWR 2-8-0 28xx class No 2886 is seen passing Warwick Common as it begins its ascent of Hatton Bank on 21st December 1963. The climb was was nearly 4 miles long and started at an incline of 1-in-95 on a tight curve after a short level stretch just north of Warwick station. The majority of the ascent was at 1-in-103/110 which is why there was a banking engine positioned at Warwick station. Built at Swindon works to Lot 321 in March 1938 No 2886 remained in service until July 1964 when it was withdrawn from Westbury shed (82D) to be scrapped in April 1965 by Birds of Morriston.
