GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Looking along Platform One towards Birmingham with the lift shaft on the island platforms on the right. The unusual cantilevered section at the top of lift shaft housed the mechanism for raising and lowering the lift from the subway. Why this was only necessary on this platform is unclear. It can only be assumed it had some connection with the goods yard rather than accommodating passengers luggage. Frank Popplewell describes the platform being used by a train replenishing supplies varying from towels to P & W requirements. If required access to Platform One could possibly be achieved through the 'Round Yard'.
