GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd2622
A 113 foot long plate girder at Hockley Goods Yard for use
in the re-construction of the Goods Station. It was conveyed to Hockley from
the Horsehay Company's works at Horsehay and Dawley for the steelwork
contractors EC & J Keay. The girder is supported on two six wheeled
articulated bridge girder wagons (telegraphic code Pollen B / Diagram A1). A
pair of these wagons, were designed to carry between them loads up to 60 tons.
The nearest Pollen B wagon is No 48979, which was normally paired with No
48980. These two wagons were both built at Swindon in 1902 as part of lot L379
along with another pair (Nos 48981 and 48982). The Pollen B wagons had a
turntable on their platform which allowed the wagons to traverse curves when
carrying long loads.
