Looking south in the summer of 1940 in the direction of the offices and Snow Hill with Hockley North Gate in the foreground. By the early summer of 1940 the building of the new Top shed was sufficiently advanced for part of it to be brought into operation. The cartage deck under the first three pitched roofs are now in operation as is evident by the variety of vehicles parked underneath the canopy. As the gable ends are being clad they are being painted. The slope of Pitsfield Street down to the junction with Icknield Street, just past the offices in the distance, is evident by looking at the roofs of the houses on the right.
