GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd679
A later view showing the new 'Top' shed now complete and box
vans being propelled through to the canal wharf on 2nd November 1939. On the
right is the parapet wall protecting pedestrians walking along All Saints
Street. The new Invoicing office, complete with glass roof lights, is seen
elevated above the rail access to the canal basin. The entrance to the canal
basin is identified by the box van, which stands at right angle to the other
wagons, and ran under All Saints Street. Initially the GWR employed
hydraulically powered capstans, later electric, to propel traffic through the
tunnel.
