Close up of image 'gwrhd685' showing the area to the north of Hockley Depot's office block and the demolished stables. The office block housed the accounts and correspondence departments of Hockley Goods yard. Single storey buildings, such as that seen at the end the office block, were originally built all the way along Pitsford Street to the North Gate. A horse drawn dray has been reversed to the door of the first building whilst beyond are the remains of the demolished stable block which ran for several hundred feet to the North Gate. By this time the stables were relocated and the remaining buildings were converted to other uses including bicycle sheds. Six months after this photograph was taken the offices were badly damaged in the heaviest raid on Birmingham of the Second World War.
