GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

An internal view of one of the platforms showing a cartage area with fixed cranes on both sides of the deck. The cranes were positioned so that they could unload a wagon and place the item within the reach of another crane for loading on to a cartage vehicle. The crane on the left has two men either side of a spreader beam, a device used to lift wide loads without causing the type of damage caused by chains pulling at a sharp diagonal angle. The platform area around the top appears to contain newsprint on the right which Frank Popplewell records was a major source of revenue for the GWR.
