This was a wagon which was propelled by shunting locomotives and were basically a two-axle flat wagon with a tool box fitted centrally and fitted with grab rails and footboards running the length of both sides of the wagon for shunters to stand on. In 1944 there were four allocated to Hockley: Nos 41089 and 41090, both being built to a M5 diagram; whilst No 41844 and No 41875 were built to a M1 diagram. Frank Popplewell notes in one of his articles in the GWR Journal that GWR 0-6-0PT No 1947 and No 1955 of the '850' class and No 2092 of the '2021' class were recorded on duty between 1933 and 1936. It was noted too by Frank that No 5790 was on duty in 1937, a precursor of the class of locomotives which would dominate the shunting duties in the post-war period. All the locomotives working at Hockley yard were allocated to Tyseley shed and needed to travel to the yard each day to commence duties.
