GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd745
View on 11th February 1941 of Hockley's main office block
being repaired some two months after the night of the air raid. The speed of
the repair was a very creditable affair bearing in mind the shortage of labour
and materials in war-torn Britain. The external brickwork has been finished and
the roof is well on the way to be completed with just a few tiles left to be
done. The distinctive veranda however will not be fully restored being repaired
only as an open veranda with side hand rails. Despite their being a war on,
commerce clearly continues as demonstrated by a new St Bruno Pipe Tobacco
advert on the side of the horse-drawn wagon.
