Ex-GWR 4-6-0 County class No 1015 'County of Gloucester' in a very dirty condition stands at the head of an up express train in October 1949. Note the BR 'rampant lion' crest on the tender which had at the time of the photograph only recently been adopted yet the locomotive is in a very dirty condition. Built at Swindon works in March 1946 No 1015 remained in service until November 1962 when it was withdrawn from Laira shed in Plymouth although it was not scrapped until May 1964 by J Cashmore of Newport.
