GWR 4-6-0 No 4037 'The South Wales Borderers' is held by signals on the up middle road with an up J Class through freight in 1937. Rebuilt at Swindon works in June 1926 as a 'Castle' class locomotive from 4-6-0 'Star' class, originally named 'Queen Phillipa', No 4037 remained in service until withdrawn from St. Davids shed, Exeter, in September 1962 to be scrapped shortly afterwards by J Cashmore of Newport in December 1962. The original Star class locomotive, No 4037 'Queen Phillipa' was itself rebuilt at Swindon works in December 1910 from one of the 4-4-2 locomotives designed by Churchward in 1906 to compare with the French imports.
