An unknown GWR 0-6-0PT locomotive travelling bunker first arrives at the south end of Leamington Spa station with a short freight train , circa 1938. The first two wagons appear to be steel hoppers (probably iron ore hoppers for the Oxfordshire Iron Works near Banbury), with the remainder being open wagons. Notice the brake van (telegraphic code - Toad) is travelling veranda first. Despite their looks, these brake vans were not turned and can be seen facing travelling in either direction.

The up stop signals (red with white strip) visible here were controlled from Leamington South Signal Box, which over-looked the station throat, while the lower up distant signals (yellow with black chevron and forked tail) on the same posts were controlled by the next signal box at Leamington Junction. In the distance near the lamp post on the right of the photograph can be seen the down signal post. The central post controlled the down main line, while the brackets on either side controlled the down goods line (left) and down platform line (right).
