GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa Station: gwrls249
An unidentified GWR 2-6-2T '39xx' class locomotive is seen
running bunker first into the down platform at the eastern end of Leamington
station. John Copsey writes "The '39xx' class was introduced for local
passenger services around the Birmingham division in 1907, fulfilling an urgent
need for larger tank engines to accommodate heavier trains. They were rebuilds
of '2301' class locomotives (Nos 2491-2510) and were initially stationed at
Wolverhampton or Birmingham (Tyseley shed from June 1908)". C1911
