Another view of the unidentified GWR 0-6-0 Armstrong Goods locomotive at the head of the short engineer's train. The LNWR line is on the extreme left of the photograph. This view, with the locomotive being further back on the down line, shows a large diameter pipe connected by the use of flanges and bolts which are normally associated with water being pumped under pressure. In image 'gwrls2094' another similar size water pipe can be seen. What is not known is what purpose did these pipes serve and do the two photographs show the same pipe crossing the bridge, the above being a temporary pipe laid whilst the up line's structure was being built and the other seen in image 'gwrls2094' being a permanent pipe. Robert Ferris speculates that the pipe could be supplying the up platform's water cranes.
