GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa Station: gwrls829
An unknown GWR A '31xx' 2-6-2T stands in one of the middle
sidings at Leamington station. In the West Midlands at this time only Tyseley
had locomotives of this class other than Leamington. These locomotives were a
medium sized tank engine designed for stopping passenger work. As such they
were later to be found all over the Great Western Railway system. The original
design was by G. J. Churchwood in 1903 as the '31XX' Class was later modified
by C. B. Collett as the '5101' class. 7th May 1911
