GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

The new passenger subway viewed from the booking hall with the down platform stairs to the left with the up platform accessed at the other end of the subway. The Sign on the left states 'Trains to Birmingham & The North - Stratford-on-Avon' whilst the other sign reads 'Trains to London, Oxford, Swindon, Reading & Southern Railway'. The Southern Railway being the Deal, Portsmouth and Bournemouth services that ran through the station with SR coaching stock used on alternative services in parallel with GWR coaching stock. On occasions SR locomotives ran through Leamington too which was explained to the writer many years ago as being because the GWR locomotive had failed before taking over the duties of the SR locomotive forcing it to continue.
