GWR Route: Moreton-in-Marsh to Shipston-on-Stour
Moreton-in-Marsh Station: gwrmm976a
Close up of image 'gwrmm976' showing the Brunelian goods
shed in greater detail including the central transit area and the road and rail
entrances at either end. Inside was a platform set to a height to enable loads
to be easily exchanged by porter's trolley or barrow. Access to the platform
was via steps at both ends on both sides. The height of the platform was also
convenient for the transhipment of the load from rail to road vehicle. The
structure was timber framed with shiplap boarding on top of a brickwork base.
Lighting was provided by the large openings together with the set of windows on
the rail side of the building. The vehicle standing in the entrance on the
right is thought to have been a Thornycroft lorry dating from the 1940s. A
feature of its design was the split screen two-thirds of the way down the
windscreen in front of the driver.
