GWR Route: Moreton-in-Marsh to Shipston-on-Stour
Moreton-in-Marsh Station: gwrmm987b
Close up of image 'gwrmm987' showing the Worcester end of
the down platform and the landing dock located to the right. The three rail
vehicles standing in the dock are most likely being used to transport goods in
to and out of Moreton-in-Marsh which required protection during transportation.
Mitchell and Smith demonstrate in their book 'Oxford to
Moreton-in-Marsh' that general goods inward tonnage was in excess of 4,000
tons from at least the turn of the century to the outbreak of the Second World
War, whilst outward tonnage started with over 5000 tons but had declined to a
mere 687 tons in the same period, the biggest drop being in the 1920s.
