GWR Route: Moreton-in-Marsh to Shipston-on-Stour

Moreton-in-Marsh Station: gwrmm999

View of the station towards the end of the construction of new down building in 1872-3 with a Permanent Way gang putting the finishing touches to the trackwork. The building on the right on the up platform is the original 1853 structure seen in image 'gwrmm3068a'. The up platform appears to have been extended as evident by the change of brickwork to the platform face. It would appear that originally both platforms were of a similar length. The platform surface still requires to be finished as rubble is still evident. The distance between the two set of rails is a clear indicator that the route had been built to accommodate broad gauge or mixed gauge trackwork. Broad gauge track was 7 foot and 0½ inch wide whilst standard gauge was 4 foot 8½ inches wide.
