The Shunter (Mr A Facey) at the controls of the electrically powered 30 ton wagon hoist above Shed B warehouse. The cage can accommodate a 25 foot long wagon and travelling at the maximum speed of 137 feet per minute can lift or lower a loaded wagon, the 33 feet, 4 inches between the rail level in the high-level yard and that in the shed, in under 15 seconds. The lift was made by Messrs S H Heywood & Company, with the three phase motors being provided by the Lancashire Dynamo Company and the semi-automatic switchgear by Messrs Electric Control Ltd.
