GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Solihull Station: gwrs2621
An official Great Western Railway Photograph of the new
relief line island platform and signal box on 2nd May 1934, completed as part
of the quadrupling of the track between Olton and Lapworth. The new station was
built slightly south of the original station site on a slight embankment. The
wide island platforms had red brick buildings containing waiting, catering and
toilet facilities for passengers, together with staff offices and storage space
and were reached by a blue tile lined subway, while a semi-glazed umbrella
canopy covered with Robertson's protected corrugated steel sheeting complete
with a typical saw-tooth valanced edge covered the full platform width.
