Front view of Stratford on Avon East Signal Box which guarded both Stratford on Avon station and the junction to the goods yard and shed. Measuring 29ft 3in long by 11ft 3in deep by 11ft 3in tall, the signal box was accessed via the doorway in the gable wall and a set of internal steps. Erected in August 1933 the signal box had very basic facilities for the men who operated the signal box. There was no running water and the ablutions were limited to an Elsan chemical toilet located outside. Heating was provided by a stove in the corner with the coal kept in a bunker outside. It wasn't until circa-1960 before a plumbed toilet and wash basin was installed under the internal stairs along with electric lighting.
