GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Honeybourne

An unidentified ex-GWR 4-6-0 Castle Class locomotive is seen approaching Sanctus Street bridge with the southbound Cornishman in 1958. The curvature of the route meant that the driver had to check two sets of signals, one on each side of the tracks. On the left can be seen two sets of signals; the left hand set controlling traffic proceeding towards Stratford on Avon, whilst the right handset controlled traffic proceeding southwards to Honeybourne. It was the right hand set which the driver had to check first before then checking the top signal arm mounted on the bracket signal. The lower arm on the bracket signal being used to control access to the junction with the SMJ.
