Tyseley Shed: gwrt302

GWR 4-6-0 Saint class No 2988 'Rob Roy' is seen with steam escaping from its safety valves inside one of Tyseley's roundhouses ready to move off shed circa 1930. As can be seen from the photograph above each road radiating from the turntable had a smoke hood at either end to accommodate the locomotive facing in either direction. Built at Swindon works in August 1905 No 2988 remained in service until May 1949 when it was withdrawn from Tyseley shed to be scrapped shortly afterwards by Swindon works.
