Ex-GWR 0-6-0PT No 3635 with an engineer's train comprising breakdown crane and empty open wagons circa 1964

Ex-GWR 0-6-0PT No 3635 is seen with an engineer's train comprising breakdown crane and empty open wagons on 28th September 1964. Besides the track is a bunker for holding sand, used if required to grit the rails to provide traction on the climb up to Earlswood Lakes, the highest point on the line, and a P&W or Platelayers' hut. The chimney on the hut indicating that it would provide mess facilities for the gang responsible for this section of line. A member of the 57xx Class No 3635 was built by Swindon works to Lot 325 in September 1939 and was to remain service until April 1965 when it was withdrawn from 2A Tyseley shed to be scrapped by Birds of Bridgend.
