GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Warwick Station: gwrw370b
Close up of image 'gwrw370' showing one of Warwick station's
several ornate gas lampposts situated on the up platform. The advertising signs
seen fixed to the fencing are typical of the type found on the railways of
Britain. With the exception of the advert for Palethorpes sausages, they are
enamel signs designed to be rigid and robust so they could be employed in a
variety of environments. The Palethorpes advert was paper and pasted on a
posterboard. Virol was the trade name for a vitamin preparation based on malt
extract. Camp Coffee is a glutinous brown substance which consists of water,
sugar, 4% coffee essence, and 26% chicory essence. This is generally used as a
substitute for coffee, by mixing with warm milk in much the same way as cocoa
or added to cold milk and ice to make an iced coffee. Today it is commonly
found on baking aisles in supermarkets as it is also used as an ingredient in
coffee cake and other confectionery.
