GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Warwick Station: gwrw387
GWR 4-6-0 King class No 6005 'King George II' is working
hard at the head of a named express service as it passes Cape Yard circa 1930s.
Labour was cheap until the 1930s and the loading and loading of coal and other
goods by hand was the norm as illustrated in this view of the coal wagons being
emptied. Built at Swindon works in July 1927, No 6005 remained in service until
November 1962 when it was withdrawn from Old Oak Common shed eventually being
scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
