GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Warwick Station: gwrw390b
Close up of image 'gwrw390' showing the ex-GWR horse box
with groom's compartment at one end and a hay store at the other end. The
horsebox has been stabled in the bay used by the banking engines. The lamp
fitted on the bufferbeam has a red lens and its position indicates that its a
deliberate stop (a group 9 lamp code indicates it for 'freight, mineral or
ballast train stopping at intermediate stations'). The horsebox was probably
used to transport a racehorse to the nearby Warwick Racecourse. The bay was
often used by the banking engines waiting to assist trains up Hatton Bank.
