GWR 4-4-0 '32xx Class' No 3202 leaves Whitlocks End Halt on a three carriage local service to Henley in Arden

GWR 4-4-0 '32xx Class' No 3202 leaves Whitlocks End Halt on a three carriage local service to Henley in Arden. Built by Swindon works in June 1936, No 3202 briefly carried the name 'Earl of Dudley' until June 1937 when it was decided it was to be transferred to No 5045, a Castle Class locomotive initially named 'Bridgwater Castle' but renamed after Lord Dudley in September 1937 presumably after someone objected to the diminutive locomotive carry a Peer of the Realm's title. The 'Dukedog' or 'Earls' class were in fact rebuilds using 'Bulldog' frames married with 'Duke' boilers. The prototype was 'Duke' No 3265 'Tre Pol and Pen', withdrawn in December 1929, which was fitted with the frames of 'Bulldog' No 3365 'Charles Grey Mott'. The locomotive seen above remained in service until May 1954 when it was withdrawn from 89C Aberystwyth shed to be scrapped by Swindon works.
