GWR Publicity
Stratford upon Avon Poster
A typical example of the Great Western Railway's publicity
poster campaign of the 1930s advertising tourist locations across its railway
network. The reference in the text under the painting to cheap monthly returns
issued daily demonstrates that it was the GWR's intention to encourage
passengers to stay for a longer period than one day. This would be music to the
ears of the town's tourist chiefs today as most tourists only visit as day
trippers.
