LMS Route: Trent Valley Line

Brinklow Station: lnwr_brin1604

Ex-LNWR 3P 4-4-0 Precursor class No 25298 'Dragon' is seen at the head of a local passenger service passing through Brinklow on the relief up line

Ex-LNWR 4-4-0 Precursor Class No 25298 'Dragon' stands at Brinklow's relief/slow platform with an up train of ex-LNWR elliptical roof carriages and an LMS four-wheel Van with corrugated iron ends in 1938. The locomotive still retains its round top firebox, its LNWR cab roof whilst having its duplicate number painted on the cab side. Built as LNWR No 60 at Crewe works in October 1904 it was renumbered No 5298 by the LMS in April 1927 and remained in service until October 1938 when it was withdrawn to be scrapped at Crewe Works shortly afterwards. Like many other pre-1914 LNWR locomotives it was placed on the duplicate list by adding 20000 to its number to make way for the LMS' new 5MT and 5XP series, in this instance, in September 1936.
