Handsworth Wood Station: lnwr_hw2281

An unidentified LNWR 2-4-0 'Jumbo' class locomotive departs from Handsworth Wood station at the beginning of the 20th century. In the foreground is a porter's or barrow crossing used to transfer luggage from one platform or another. Whilst frequently used by passengers too there would be notices stating passengers should cross by other means, and in Handsworth Wood's case, this would be via Hamstead Road using the two paths on either side of the line. If no such facility was available, then the notice would extol the passenger to take extra care when crossing.
